The Platform Vocal Studio provides a comfortable and naturally lit space for you to record your voice reel. We use industry standard Plug-ins including Speakerphone, Altiverb and Compressors to keep the natural quality of your voice, whilst creating polish and warmth. Our experience has shown that by using the least amount of effects possible, we can avoid clouding the voice, providing a rich and natural tone. The microphones we use are designed to produce a high quality sound, and are very easy to work with. Although we use music and sound effects to enhance the text you have chosen, our priority is the clarity of your voice, after all, this is your audition and it is you casting directors want to hear. Along with a great sounding room, and a purpose built vocal booth, we provide a homely and comfortable environment to ensure you are relaxed and happy.We are located in Hither Green (South East London), and there are great transport links to us from Lewisham, London Bridge, Waterloo East and Charing Cross

The vocal industry is a busy and lucrative business, and is not just limited to radio. Your voice could be used for adverts, corporate videos, announcements, documentaries or audio books to name a few!
At The Platform, we have created a relaxed environment for you to record in. The best recordings happen when the actor is comfortable, as the mic can often pick up when you are not confident. The space is acoustically treated to create a naturally lit, relaxed and homely studio.
The Platform is a client focused company, aiming to capture your personality, as well as producing technical excellence. We provide full support, from helping you choose material to making your voice reel perfect.
We provide:
- A pre-recording consultation with an experienced director to capture your full potential
- A three hour recording session, to produce 9 recorded texts
- A two minute sound montage for Spotlight
- A master data and audio CD

Consultation
As an actor it is important to choose the perfect texts for your voice, and we invite you to come for a pre-recording consultation to discuss what you want your voice reel to be like. It is important that the reel plays to your strengths in order to maximise your potential in the vocal industry. Our in house director can guide you through the choice of texts to gain the best results from your voice. The consultation is important in order to minimise studio time and help you to feel comfortable and confident, creating a strong and comprehensive recording.
Recording
We will spend between two and four hours in the studio, our motto is there is no rush. We will take the time to capture your full potential. The key to a great voice reel is for you to be comfortable, relaxed and confident to create a unique and personal voice reel. With four years experience in vocal recording, our in house director will direct you through the pieces, this process is more then just pressing record and hoping you hit a take you like, we can do as many takes as you need until you are happy with how you sound. We will integrate sound effects and music into the recording process to help you engage more fully in the text, and make the reel sound and feel as slick and exciting as possible.
Post-producion/Mixing
Your final voice reel will contain nine pieces, formed of a mixture of commercials, straight reads from fiction, poetry, documentary and character/drama pieces, and will include any accents or vocal talents that you feel you can present well.
A dynamic two minute montage of the pieces will kick off the reel, this will primarily be for use on spotlight. The best full tracks will be edited together from all of the takes, music and sound effects will be added to ensure that the listening experience is dynamic and exciting, and will show off your voice to its highest quality.
1.Narrative, classic - A paragraph from a book or novel. Classic narratives are usually quite descriptive, and often need to be from a text which is pre 1930 to be considered a classic. An opening paragraph or chapter beginning often works best.
2.Narrative, modern - Something from a more up to date novel that allows a contrast. This can often be an opportunity to show something grittier or more urban. Alternatively children's books are especially effective on a reel. The Modern Narrative should be very different form the first, and maybe contain multiple characters to show off your talent
3.Character piece - This can be a monologue you've done for an audition, a speech from a movie, a cartoon character (or characters), something from a play, or something you have written yourself.
4.Character piece 2 - It is important that the second character piece contrasts with the first. Don't forget this can be an opportunity for you to lean towards the computer game market with some fairly extreme or dramatic characterisations.
5.Documentary - This can be a chance to recreate the feel of a TV documentary. The subject matter can be about anything, particularly if it is something you are passionate about. This text often turns out to be quite dramatic.
6.Documentary/Journalistic/Gossip piece - This text is more loosely defined, and essentially entertains a much lighter tone. A good example is the kind of article found in magazines discussing Hollywood A-listers and their quirks etc.
7.Ident - This is a link between two shows on a TV channel, or a promo/teaser for a future or upcoming programme.
8.Poem - A poem can sometimes be a good chance to hear a 'straight' read of something more stylised. Have a favourite poem? This may be the place to use it.
9.Commercials. - The crucial thing is to find an advert that perfectly suits your voice and style of delivery.
